Carl W Rush
Born in Brampton, Ontario in 1963, I moved with my family to Waterloo Region in 1969. I was awarded an undergraduate degree in English and Classical Literature by Wilfrid Laurier University in 1985 and a Diploma in Accounting from the School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University in 1987.
I joined the Federal Public Service in 1987, working for the Department of National Revenue and taught an Income Tax Course as Associate Faculty at Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology. I retired from the Federal Public Service in 1995 following a diagnosis with HIV in 1993 to pursue AIDS activism. I have been active with AIDS Action Now! for many years and have worked as a Clinical Trials Counsellor at the Community AIDS Treatment Information Exchange in Toronto. In 2001, I left a position as the President and Acting Executive Director at the AIDS Committee of Cambridge, Kitchener-Waterloo and Area to assist with the care of my sister, Bonnie, who had had several Cerebral Vascular Accidents, until her death in 2008.
