Manuel Pellon

b.1986

Manuel Pellón, was born in Asunción, Paraguay in 1986. He took his photographs using a compact camera in 2008 of a little child crying who was fighting with her sister. He studied photography at the Institute of the Image in Asunción, where he was awarded a scholarship based on his merit. Manuel was diagnosed HIV+ in 2008. He fled Paraguay in 2017 due to lack of access to medication, medical care and fear of persecution for being gay and openly HIV+.

His work explores themes of loneliness, fear, isolation, conversion therapy, struggle, vulnerability and self discovery. Pellón’s first solo exhibition “Sinestia” was in 2015 at the CITIBANK CULTURAL CENTER in Asunción, Paraguay. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
