George Rios

George Edward Rios was born in El Paso, grew up in San Diego, and has lived most of his life in New York City. He came there to be a dancer, did that a bit, then became involved in the theatre scene. (Yes, he spells "theatre" like that.) He has worked with several local opera and theatre companies and was personal assistant to Jonathan Larson on the original production of RENT. He studied acting, directing and theatre design at Hunter College with Jacques Levy, Harry Lines and Claire Bloom, as well as design and typography at Fashion Institute of Technology. He has provided caricatures for Michael Feingold's theatre reviews in The Village Voice, illustrations for Show Business Weekly, American Theater Magazine, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, and Institutional Investor. He has designed poster art for The Pearl Theatre, New York Theater Workshop, and logo and t-shirt designs for many New York City businesses. His work is in the private collections of Karen Ziemba, Bebe Neuwirth, David Garrison, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Michael Shannon, Darko Tresnjak, David Henry Hwang, and many other notables
