Walter Compton

Walter Compton was an artist and professor of art history at Massachusetts College of Art.

Born in Elkhart, Ind., Mr. Compton earned a bachelor's degree at Northwestern University and a master's degree and doctorate at Harvard University.

A professor at Massachusetts College of Art since 1971, his works were exhibited throughout the Boston area.

Compton died of complications from AIDS Monday in his home in Boston. He was 53.
