Zayd González

Zayd González was born in Mexico City. He holds a BFA in Plastic and Visual Arts from the National School of Painting, Sculpture, and Printmaking “La Esmeralda”. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Art History, with a specialization in Curatorial Studies, at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He lives and works in the State of Mexico.

Through the reappropriation of fragments of popular culture, his work reflects his personal experiences as a lover, a person living with HIV, and a sex–gender dissident. He works with drawing, painting, sculpture, and text as his primary means of expression.

His current research focuses on developing strategies for the circulation of knowledge that seek to move beyond capitalist and individualistic market dynamics. This work takes shape through the organization of conversations, reading and reflection groups, artistic creation workshops for children and people living with HIV, performative readings, and, more recently, art criticism.
