B. 1992, Dionte Wilkens is a black American artist born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He is inspired by nature, mythology, anime/manga, and life experiences in the world as someone who deals with mental illness personally. He focuses currently on human and natural subjects but actively explores different mediums in his artistic journey.
My name is Dionte Wilkens. I’m a Baltimore artist who utilizes oil and acrylic paint as my main medium, while exploring different ways to express my creativity. I studied 4 years at Catonsville Community College in the Fine Arts degree program, learning drawing, painting, color theory, design, and art history. After leaving Catonsville Community College I enrolled in the Zoll Studio of Fine Arts. There I learned the old master technique in order to hone my drawing and oil painting on a deeper level.
With my art I seek to explore black perspectives, peace, meditation, and mental health. I incorporate figurative art with the human body as well as elements of nature like plants and animals. I use these characteristics and symbolism to form a language that can communicate love, transcendence and freedom which I hope will create connection, relation, and ignite conversations about the human experience. I would also like to share my creativity with the community and create space for others to express their full authentic selves.
