Jaewon Kim (he/him) is a visual artist based in Seoul. He works primarily with video, photography, and writing to explore how queerness and HIV/AIDS shape experiences of visibility, memory, and the uneven dynamics between bodies, illness, and social context. His work focuses on layered temporality, where the boundaries between past, present, and future are blurred and interwoven. He captures feelings of intimacy and loss through objects, traces, or particular situations. Through this observational approach, he explores the emotional residues and invisible layers of connection that remain in the wake of illness.
His work has been shown internationally in Seoul, Busan, Hong Kong, Taipei, Brisbane, Philadelphia, Lausanne, and New York. His videos have been screened at institutions and festivals including the Whitney Museum (US), Philadelphia Museum of Art (US), Seoul International PRIDE Film Festival (KR), and Busan International Video Art Festival (KR). His exhibitions have been held at venues such as C-LAB (TW), Buk-Seoul Museum of Art (KR), and Asian Art Initiative (US). He has been commissioned by Busan Museum of Art (KR), Visual AIDS (US), and HIV Science as Art (AUS), and was an artist-in-residence at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) Residency Goyang (KR).
