John Bommer Murphy II

1957–1986

John Bommer Murphy II was an American artist who created vibrant semi-abstract expressionistic paintings and collages. A graduate of Yale University and the University of California Santa Barbara, Murphy passed away at the age of 29.

In his UCSB days, Murphy, aka John Bommer or VIBGYOR, was a teaching assistant in both art studios and film studies. He was the art director of a film student magazine, Focus. In the years prior to his death, the prolific artist's works were in international exhibitions in Japan and elsewhere.
