Louis Fulgoni

b.1936

Louis Fulgoni was a graphic artist, print-maker, painter and sculptor. His large body of work ranged from abstract landscapes and cityscapes to social and political commentary to erotic portraiture. After Fulgoni learned that he was HIV-positive at the height of the AIDS crisis, he became even more prolific.

Born in 1936 and raised on Staten Island, Fulgoni attended the School of Visual Arts and went on to work as a graphic designer at the NBC television network, living for many years in the Chelsea section of Manhattan. He died in 1989 of complications from AIDS, but his art remains as a testament to his skill and devotion. The virtual exhibition, Louis Fulgoni: Memory + Legacy, provides a full retrospective.
