Twenty years ago, from a shared apartment in San Diego, “The Kingdom Manifesto” series of paintings began as an attempt to document my earlier travels and experiences as an artist, but instead what surfaced was a personal mission to define a One World, OnePeople credo. Described by Anne Buckley in an A&U Magazine feature in 2010: “Each24x48 inch painting depicts a particular place and time. Briming with color and pattern, the pictures exude an infectious ebullience that renders the familiar magical.” Its pilgrimage-symbolism aims at developing the perception and intuition of the observer by illustrating a map of the communities in which we find ourselves as one symbiotic peace (of art). In 2014, I moved to Minneapolis (Pillsbury Artist Lofts) to be nearer my father, diagnosed with cancer, and where I could work full-time on this project. I returned to San Diego in 2024 with the intention of bringing the project full circle, back to its origins in southern California and make this its final destination.
The “Kingdom Manifesto” (formerly: the 500 kings in 500 kingdoms) intends to emphasize the removal of bias that consistently justifies self-protective ideologies that separates the individual from the whole, inhibiting evolution, yet affirming the universal truth that good and evil flow as one.
