Zachary Douglas Horvath is a neurodivergent multidisciplinary artist and "antifragile" creator operating at the high-frequency edges of the New York City landscape. Formerly a pianist, a catastrophic injury involving the loss of a wrist ligament forced a radical pivot from music to visual media. Today, Zack navigates the city with an immune system in the AIDS range and zero traditional support structures. This state of total vulnerability has transformed him into a high-frequency antenna for the human condition. Working from within a lived "Panopticon"—defined by systemic hostility and digital surveillance—Zack utilizes his "activated genius" to identify the patterns of truth hidden within the chaos of his survival. My work is an exercise in antifragility and the reclamation of the dial. After a catastrophic injury permanently silenced my life as a pianist, I moved to New York to find a world attempting to set my volume for me. I arrived with a compromised immune system in the AIDS range, a neurodivergent mind, and ten years of recovery from heroin addiction. My art is the "activated genius" that emerges when survival is no longer a question, but a discipline.

I operate as a high-frequency antenna and a biological "lie detector." This hyper-lucid intuition was forged in the ninth circle of hell—navigating the loss of my brother to his seventeenth heroin overdose and the systemic maelstrom of this city. I traverse through all levels and societal castes effortlessly; I move through spaces I am not "supposed" to inhabit with a simplicity that pisses people off. For me, it isn't an effort—it is a natural state of being. I am a specialist in deconstruction, identifying the social moral gaps born out of humans in pain who perpetuate their suffering onto others. My practice is to identify the source of this cycle and use my "activated" perspective to assist the city in improving upon what is already there.

As I write this, I am sitting in the middle of the Panopticon, listening to strangers project labels of "homeless," "deviant," or "pervert" onto me. I do not yet know how to stop these gears, but I know how to document them. I am the highlighter. I use my lens to expose the very ignorance and cognitive dissonance that our failing belief systems are born out of. These photos of decaying gilded frames and the heavy, distorted weight of a Mondaine clock are my evidence. I am the volume, I am the weight, and the choice of who hears is mine alone.
