AIDS Over Time/Time Over AIDS
Ongoing stigma, discrimination & lack of universal access to resources make it time to reinvigorate discussion about HIV/AIDS.
Help sustain & renew the fight against AIDS!
Robert Atkins, along with Visual AIDS and the Center for Lesbian & Gay Studies (CUNY), are creating an updated “snapshot” of AIDS and contemporary American society in 2014. AIDS Over Time/Time Over AIDS is a yearlong forum designed to bring together findings from the arts, media, education, law, medicine, popular culture, political activism, religion and L/G/B/T concerns, and to document and transmit them to broad publics. Community and advocacy groups, educational and research institutions will produce programs designed to present (and discuss) research findings from laboratories, libraries, studios and the streets.
It’s 2013.Do you know where the U.S. AIDS crisis stands?
This year total U.S. AIDS fatalities will surpass the 600,000+ toll of the Civil War (far exceeding 4,500 US fatalities in Iraq or the 58,000 of the Vietnam War.) One-quarter of the 48,000 newly infected with HIV each year are female, one-quarter are youth ages 13-24, & one-third are men in their twenties. 1.1 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV/AIDS & one-fifth of them are unaware of being HIV+.
