Experiment with ordinary materials in new and creative ways with these online artmaking events designed for all ages. Each project explores artworks from the Whitney’s collection included in Making Knowing: Craft in Art, 1950–2019, and invites participants to consider the relationship between artmaking and our domestic spaces. All events in this series are live, thirty-minute sessions taught by a Whitney educator.
Inspired by the artist Njideka Akunyili Crosby, this workshop invites participants to use collage and photo transfer techniques to create images of their families. How might you represent your family’s story in a way that feels monumental to viewers outside of your immediate circle?

Suggested materials
- Pencil and paper
- Packing tape
- Photos, magazines, or patterned fabrics that tell us about your family/history (to be used as collage or transfer materials)
- Scissors and glue
- Metal spoon or burnishing tool
