All are invited to The Bronx Museum for the closing reception of the critically acclaimed exhibition, Ministry: Reverend Joyce McDonald, curated by Kyle Croft, Executive Director at Visual AIDS. Guests will enjoy art, music, and light refreshments.
You are welcome to drop in for this event, but if you plan on attending, please consider letting us know in advance with an optional RSVP.
Exploring Portraiture in Clay, an exhibition inspired by McDonald’s work and featuring clay sculptures by participants in The Bronx Museum’s Lifelong Studio program—which offers free art workshops to adults 55+—is on view alongside Ministry through Sunday, January 11, at 6:00 PM.
This program is presented in partnership with The Bronx Museum on the occasion of Ministry: Reverend Joyce McDonald, the first museum exhibition devoted to the artist’s work. A longtime Visual AIDS Artist Member, McDonald began working with clay in 1997 through an art therapy program, shortly after her diagnosis with HIV. She quickly recognized the medium’s potential for healing and transformation. Working intuitively, she allows figures to emerge from the clay, giving form to memories and emotion while processing experiences of addiction, domestic violence, and illness.
Ministry: Reverend Joyce McDonald is accompanied by a fully-illustrated 112-page catalogue published by Visual AIDS, in collaboration with the Bronx Museum. The catalogue is available to purchase for $35 on the Visual AIDS store.
