As part of our ongoing partnership with the Fire Island Artist Residency (FIAR), Visual AIDS presents a visiting artist talk with Devin N. Morris.

Mixed media artist Devin N. Morris (b. 1986, Baltimore, MD) explores collage making through painting, photography, writings, and video. His works prioritize displays of personal innocence and acts of kindness within surreal landscapes and elaborate draped environments. Recent solo exhibitions include On Paper at Deli Gallery, NY; Play Too Much at Baby Company, NY; and group exhibitions No Place at PPOW, NY; The Skin I Live In at Lyles and King, NY; and Potemkin/ Body at Lubov, NY. Morris is the founder of 3 Dot Zine, and in 2017 Time Magazine listed him as one of “12 African American Photographers You Should Follow.”

The Visual AIDS/FIAR lecture series brings Visual AIDS Artist+ Members to share their experience with the Fire Island community and the Fire Island Residency artists at the Cherry Grove Community House through a partnership with the Arts Project of Cherry Grove.

Fire Island Artist Residency (FIAR) is a non-profit organization founded in 2011 which brings lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, intersex and queer identifying emerging visual artists to Fire Island— a place long-steeped in LGBTQ history— to create, commune, rest, reflect and contribute to the location's rich artistic history.
