Philip Spiegel Going Viral

Philip Spiegel, Going Viral, December 1, 2019

Visual AIDS Artist Member Philip Spiegel presents his work in "Going Viral." What happens when you are diagnosed with HIV? What is the initial reaction? The first years of Philipp Spiegel's life with HIV were plagued by uncertainty and fear. Being a heterosexual male he felt the virus was too far to concern him. After his surprise diagnosis in 2014 his life changed instantly. Fear of intimacy, of stigmas and of himself started taking hold of his life. This intimate exhibition leads through those first years of angst and anxieties, where everyday objects become a symbol of life or death, and perceptions of intimacy, love and the self are questioned.
