"The photographs in this gallery are extraordinary to me. They are the images I wish I had seen when I was younger, to know that such a life was possible: ambiguously gendered individuals celebrating their fabulous and complicated lives, casually flirting with gender in the doorway of the Crowbar, the complex sexiness of the pregnant performer with their dildo, the radical faeries holding each other in the streets, Mark Morrisroe and his campy friends hanging out making films in shabby apartments. All of these images were taken before 2000 and tap into the magic and creativity of queer life at the time." - Quito Ziegler

Quito Ziegler curated this month's web gallery, Elegy for a Queendom That Never Became, featuring work by Tim Greathouse, Nelson Rodriguez, Luna Luis Ortiz, Jorge Veras, Vincent Cianni, Luis Carle, Bruce Cratsley, Yolanda, Mark Morrisroe, TRET Tierney, Richard Sawdon Smith, Robert Blanchon, and Brent Nicholson Earle.

Each month, Visual AIDS invites guest curators, drawn from both the arts and AIDS communities, to select several works from the Frank Moore Archive Project and Visual AIDS Artists Registry. View past Web Gallery here.
