In support of the New York Public Library's exhibition, Why We Fight: Remembering AIDS Activism,
Visual AIDS has organized an interactive series which uses art-making
to connect young adults with vital information about HIV while exploring
the history of AIDS Activism.
All programs begin at 3:30pm.
No previous art experience is required.

Creating Faces Through Collage – An Artist Workshop by Carmine Santaniello
New works by artist Carmine Santaniello often begin through collage. He
creates faces using collected images of eyes, lips, nostrils, eyebrows,
cheekbones and other features. In the process a personality on paper
emerges, as does a new way of seeing faces. In this interactive workshop
Santaniello will lead participants through the process of creating
faces through collage.

Draw Your Story – Making Comics with James Romberger and Marguerite Van Cook
What
does your day look like? How does it feel? What colors do you see in your day?
Join legendary artist James Romberger and Marguerite Van Cook for an
interactive workshop where they will lead you through a process of paneling,
drawing and coloring out a moment in your day.

Image Transfer: Remake/Remodel - A Workshop with Albert Velasco
Albert Velasco will share
his journey with art and life and lead students through a workshop on how to
use a natural, non-toxic solvent to transfer photocopy images to paper to
create unique and interesting prints.

Seeing the World Through the Lens of HIV: 'The
City' Reveals a Metaphor for Survival – A workshop with Frank Jump
“Learning you have a virus
that may ultimately kill you changes the way you see the world,” says
photographer Frank Jump. It was with this in mind that he began to see and
interact with the world differently. In this workshop Frank will share his
journey bringing together, the city, art and survival and by the end you will
be invited to see the world differently and have new skills on how to share
your vision.

Making Idols For Survival, a workshop with Frederick Weston
Tapping into his own
experience, strength and hope, in this workshop, Weston will retell a story
from his childhood, share why it is important to him, and teach the students
how to use complex stories from their childhood to create rituals for
surviving, striving, and thriving.
