Pride can be a wonderful and stressful time. Frivolity, flesh, risk, fun, trauma, memories, history and sunshine/burn. For the second year in a row, Visual AIDS provides you with listings so you can create your own Alternative Pride Weekend. Do what you need to do to be out, social engaged, but not overly overwhelmed, triggered, policed or annoyed. For inspiration this year we look to artist member Paul Thek and his piece: "Afflict the comfortable, comfort the afflicted". The following suggestions are about bringing community together, questioning the current state of PRIDE and making space for people to still celebrate and gather.

We are asked to join in and take to the streets to honor the legacy of the Stonewall Riots through our annual march and rally for Trans and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color Liberation and Justice! A march will be lead from the Christopher Street Pier through the West Village and back.

Don't feel like leaving the house? But have a few extra dollars? Support OUT IN THE WOODS. Nestled in the rolling hills of upstate New York, Arts in The Woods is a summer arts retreat designed to empower young queer artists and build an intergenerational community of visual artists, musicians, dancers, writers and performers. From Sunday July 13th to Friday July 18th, young people ages 18-24 who have survived NYC and Boston's queer youth shelters will attend a collective arts residency at Easton Mountain Retreat Center and be nurtured by more established queer artists and performers. Arts in the Woods creates space for all participants to heal together from the misogyny, transphobia, racism, inadequate housing, and economic injustice so pervasive in our cities. The beautiful land at Easton Mountain offers artistic inspiration and a perfect backdrop for creativity. They need help to make it a reality.
