Allen Frame
STOREY GALLERY
STOREY GALLERY presents a selection of photographs by Allen Frame depicting Richard Brintzenhofe, Darrel Ellis, and Miguel Ferrando in downtown New York during the 1980s and 1990s. Drawn from Frame’s close relationships with the artists, the photographs offer an intimate record of a shared artistic and social world.
Frame moved to New York from Mississippi in 1977 and photographed friends— a close circle of artists and writers— in his apartment, in their studios, on beaches, and throughout the streets of New York. He met Ellis in 1981 and Brintzenhofe in the late 80s. His images are at once documentary and deeply personal, recording the everyday intimacy of friendship and artistic life.
This project inaugurates STOREY GALLERY’s The Back Gallery exhibition program, which presents focused, intimate projects alongside the gallery’s wider exhibition program.
ALLEN FRAME is on view concurrently with RICHARD BRINTZENHOFE, DARREL ELLIS, MIGUEL FERRANDO.
Co-organized with Candice Madey with special thanks to Gitterman Gallery.
