Day With(out) Art - 1996
Abrons Art Center
1
This year, Day Without Art changes its name to Day With(out) Art. The name change encourages a day WITH art to increase programming of cultural events to draw attention to the continuing pandemic. Although the name is retained as a metaphor for the chilling possibility of a future without art or artists, parentheses are added to the program title - Day With(out) Art - to highlight programs and exhibitions of artists living with HIV/AIDS, and art about AIDS, that are taking place worldwide. National programs and exhibitions include:
- 1996 Day With(out) Art poster, featuring photography by Tom McGovern
- Welcome to D.C., election-year broadside by City AIDS Action
- Adhesive broadside by artist Harvey Weiss
- Broadside by Artist Mike Parker
- +Gram/Posivgramma, artists' postcard project, produced by Carlos Molina
- A Living Testament of the Blood Fairies, an Artists Space exhibition of artists with AIDS, curated by Frank Moore, Geoff Hendricks and Sur Rodney (Sur)
- A special exhibition of works by artists with AIDS for Day Without Art at St. Mark's-in-the-Bowery
