Pattern Play: Jeff Van Dyke & Kathryn McGuinness
JOHNSON & JOHNSON CORPORATE CONFERENCE CENTER
Pattern Play: an exhibition of the work of Kathryn McGuinness and Jeff Van Dyke.
Both Kathryn McGuinness and Jeff Van Dyke understand the power of pattern. However, they each wield this power differently. Kathryn loves neon hues; Jeff loves neutral palettes. Kathryn embraces chaos; Jeff embraces order. Kathryn exhibits spontaneity; Jeff exhibits restraint. Despite these differences, both use art as a means to survive. Once diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, Kathryn and Jeff turned to art as a means to order their thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. Their artwork serves as a manifestation of their interior worlds. Twenty years after his diagnosis, Jeff still paints universally accessible patterns that offer both him and his viewer solace. In the summer of 2015, Kathryn lost her battle to HIV/AIDS. This exhibition not only serves as a tribute to their lives but the ability for art to uplift, soothe, and heal.
This exhibition was presented in collaboration with Visual AIDS. In honor of World AIDS Day.
